Hellllloooo : Introduction

Hello Everybody.

I still have a lot of work to do on the layout of this blog, but I figured that I would actually start blogging, and offcourse I would kick this off with a general introduction post.

My name is Lori, this is not my full name, it’s just simply a nickname, I actually gained this nickname the first time I lived in Japan, way back in 2007. At this time I lived in Fukui prefecture on a two month exchange program. And after the first two days I realized that my friends and host family sometimes had trouble pronouncing my full name so I started introducing myself as Lori thinking that if it was shorter it would be simpler, now it feels unnatural to use my full name.
I sometimes am also known by my nickname Star, hence the name of the blog, but I will save the story of this nickname for another day.

I come from a small rural town in Australia, where the fashion scene is tragic to say the least (we have maybe 5 clothing shops) and not much diversity in anything really.

I am currently in my third year of university where I study applied linguistics, intercultural communication and the Japanese language along with a minor in business management.

As I mentioned earlier, my first visit to Japan was in December of 2007 and January of 2008

Myself and my host sister (2008)
But my second visit of Japan was from august 2010 until June 2011 where I lived and studied in Osaka at Kansai Gaidai University.
It was during my time at KGU, living in Osaka that I started to gain confidence in myself as well as develop my fashion taste and style.
These were probably the busiest but best months of my life, this experience gave me the opportunity I needed to grow into myself, and I also made many friends that made me feel comfortable and happy with who I am.

As for my fashion taste, I like to think I am rather flexible when it comes to fashion.
I don’t like the idea of picking a particular style and putting myself in that box, until two years ago I was more or less a tomboy whose closet was full of baggy shirty and track pants, and until last year I couldn’t apply makeup beyond basic foundation.
But now days my closet is full of different style dresses, skinny leg jeans, shorts, different style shirts and shoes. (although I tend to be very picky about shoes, and only buy them if I love them.)
I currently own more makeup now than I have ever before, practically a wide range of eye makeup, and recently I have grown a fondness of jewellery where as before I only wore jewellery if it had a very strong meaning to me.
My hair is usually blonde, sometimes just straight plain blonde, sometimes dyed with red, purple and pink. Sometimes its short, and sometimes I have a few extensions, but that really comes down to when I can afford extensions.
Also during my time in Japan I grew a sudden interest in tattoo’s, and got five tattoos in the period of a few months, but I will go into detail about them in another post perhaps.
I guess I could say the main thing that inspires me when it comes to fashion in music, I love music more than anything else, and I love all types of music, but I have a particular fondness for the casual visual indie bands from Japan, so I guess I can see some influence from those kind of bands in the way I dress.

Well that’s it for now, I will try my best to get another post up soon, if you have any questions for any reason, do not hesitate to ask.
